Captain Marvel
Monica Rambeau, a former New Orleans harbor patrol lieutenant, gained the ability to convert her body into any form of electromagnetic energy after being exposed to extra-dimensional energy from an experimental weapon. She took the name Captain Marvel and joined the Avengers.
Stepping onto the page in 1985 courtesy of Chris Claremont and Sal Buscema, this Captain Marvel is a Bronze Age creation with a distinctly Franco-Belgian flavor, published under the banner of Editions Lug. With 51 catalogued appearances spread across a remarkable 36-year span — touching titles like Titans, Ombrax-Saga, and Strange — this is a character whose staying power in the French comics market is genuinely impressive. Along the way, Captain Marvel shares adventures with heavyweights like Captain America and Iron Man, rubbing shoulders with some of Marvel's most iconic figures in stories that kept Lug's readership hooked for decades. Collectors take note: that key-issue appearance makes this an especially rewarding corner of comics history to explore.
