Blimp
Blimp is a founding member of the Inferior Five, DC's comedic super-team of intentionally inept heroes. A parody of the superhero genre, he joins Merryman, Dumb Bunny, Awkwardman, and White Feather as one of the gloriously incompetent underdogs at the heart of the Silver Age satirical series.
Few characters capture the gleeful absurdist spirit of Silver Age DC quite like Blimp, who floated onto the scene in Showcase #62 in 1966, courtesy of the wonderfully inventive team of E. Nelson Bridwell, Joe Orlando, and Jerry Grandenetti. A founding fixture of the gloriously tongue-in-cheek Inferior Five, Blimp shares his comedic adventures with the likes of Merryman, Dumb Bunny, Awkwardman, and White Feather β a rogues' gallery of lovable underdogs that made parody an art form in an era drunk on superhero earnestness. With appearances stretching all the way to 2013 across titles including Blackhawk and Batman: The Brave and the Bold, this slow-and-steady cult favorite has proven surprisingly durable for a character built on self-deprecating charm. If you love DC's willingness to laugh at itself, Blimp is absolutely worth tracking down.
