Amphibius
Amphibius is a frog-like mutate from Marvel's Savage Land, transformed from one of the primitive Swamp Men by the villain Magneto using advanced evolutionary technology. He became a founding member of the Savage Land Mutates, serving as an amphibious enforcer in that prehistoric Antarctic refuge.
Lurking in the primordial wilds of the Marvel Universe since 1969, Amphibius leapt onto the scene in The X-Men #62, conjured by the legendary creative team of Roy Thomas and Neal Adams during one of the Silver Age's most celebrated runs. A creature of the Savage Land through and through, this feral figure has shared those prehistoric pages with the likes of Ka-Zar, Kevin Plunder, Barbarus, and Brainchild β a rogues' gallery that speaks to the gloriously strange, jungle-adventure corner of Marvel that few other publishers dared to explore. Over more than five decades, Amphibius has resurfaced across The Uncanny X-Men, X-Men: The Hidden Years, and Marvel Fanfare, proving that this amphibious oddity has remarkable staying power for a character with surprisingly deep roots. If you love the wilder, weirder edges of Marvel continuity β where mutants clash with lost worlds β Amphibius is exactly the kind of discovery that reminds you why digging through back issues is always worth it.
