Top Cat
Charlton · 1970–1973 · 20 issues
About the series
The slickest alley cat in Manhattan, Top Cat, headlined his own Charlton Comics series from 1970 to 1973, bringing the animated antics of the Bowery Boys-inspired feline gang to the printed page across 20 issues. Writers Joe Gill and Gwen Krause, alongside artists Ray Dirgo and Phil Mendez, were the primary creative team translating the cartoon's fast-talking schemes and Officer Dibble's exasperated chases into punchy, kid-friendly comic strips. While never a major hit, the series is a fondly remembered snapshot of the era's licensed comics, preserving the wisecracking charm of a Hanna-Barbera favorite for a new generation of readers.
