About the series
In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Fawcett Publications expanded its hit "Shazam!" universe into its own dedicated series, The Marvel Family, running 89 issues. Anchored by the storytelling of Otto Binder and the iconic art of C. C. Beck, the title spotlighted the extended Marvel clan—Billy Batson’s Captain Marvel, Freddy Freeman’s Captain Marvel Jr., and Mary Batson’s Mary Marvel—alongside whimsical side characters like Captain Tootsie and Rollo. This series mattered as a key expansion of the golden-age Captain Marvel mythos, blending superheroics with lighthearted, family-friendly adventure before Fawcett’s legal battles with DC Comics brought the line to a halt.
