About the series
In the sweltering, football-obsessed town of Craw County, Alabama, Southern Bastards is a gritty, character-driven crime saga from Image Comics that ran from 2014 to 2018. Co-created by writers Jason Aaron and Jason Latour, with Latour also handling the bulk of the art alongside Chris Brunner, the series digs into the violent intersection of high school football, family legacy, and small-town corruption. Its raw, Southern Gothic storytelling and visceral artwork made it a standout modern indie comic, capturing the brutal soul of a place where the game is law and the coach is king.
