About the series
From 1958 to 1977, Harvey Comics published Sad Sack Laugh Special, a 93-issue series built on the military misfortunes of its perpetually down-on-his-luck title character. Anchored by the art and writing of Fred Rhoads, alongside regulars Stan Kay, George Baker, and Warren Kremer, the book expanded Sad Sack’s world with a cast including the gruff Sarge, blustering General Rockjaw, and the slovenly Slob Slobinski. A spin-off from the classic Sad Sack title, this series kept the character’s signature brand of slapstick army humor alive for nearly two decades, offering readers a steady dose of gentle, goofy gags.
