About the series
Marvel’s Howard the Duck (1979–1981) picked up the cigar-chomping, wisecracking waterfowl’s misadventures in a nine-issue run that paired him with his long-suffering human companion Beverly Switzler and crossed paths with the swamp-dwelling Man-Thing and scientist Ted Sallis. Writers Lynn Graeme, Bill Mantlo, and Trina Robbins, alongside artists Marshall Rogers, Michael Golden, and Peter Ledger, gave the series a surreal, satirical edge that leaned into Howard’s absurdist, fish-out-of-water struggles. A key chapter in the character’s post-Fear #19 evolution, it’s a cult-favorite blend of social commentary and offbeat superheroics.
