Howard the Duck #9

A colossal duck-headed sphinx dominates the cover of this 1981 Marvel Magazine Group title, looming ominously over a darkened landscape while Howard the Duck and a red-haired woman in a purple dress scramble away in apparent terror. The painted cover art by John Pound gives the whole scene a wonderfully eerie, pulpy atmosphere that suits the "Do Do That Voodoo!" story title perfectly. Inside, writer Bill Mantlo and artist Gene Colan (inked by Alfredo Alcala) bring their considerable talents to Howard's latest strange adventure.
