About the series
Jim Davis’s beloved, long-running comic strip series, collected in print by Random House from 1980 onward, follows the famously lazy, lasagna-loving orange tabby Garfield, his long-suffering owner Jon Arbuckle, and the blissfully dim-witted dog Odie. With Davis as both writer and artist for the vast majority of its 73-issue run, the strip’s timeless, deadpan humor and cast—including Garfield’s teddy bear Pooky, the pink cat Arlene, and the mouse Squeak—made it a defining force in newspaper comics. Its enduring popularity lies in its simple, relatable gags about a cat’s disdain for Mondays and appetite for mischief.
