Black Lightning #13

The cover of this 1996 DC series entry says it all — Black Lightning crackles with raw electrical energy at its center, arms outstretched in a blaze of gold and orange, while an enormous, brooding Batman looms in the darkness above him. The tagline "Judgment Knight!" perfectly captures the charged tension between these two titans that Eddy Newell renders with striking visual drama. With the creative team of David deVries and artists Eddy Newell and N. Steven Harris on board, "To Protect and Serve" looks like one of the more compelling confrontations this short-lived series had to offer.
