About the series
In 1966, Archie Comics took a playful detour from Riverdale's usual hijinks with the three-issue series Archie as Pureheart the Powerful. Scripted by Frank Doyle and illustrated by Bob White and Bill Vigoda, this short-lived experiment transformed the red-headed teen into a caped crusader, pitting him against the villainous Evilheart while still juggling his familiar dynamic with Reggie Mantle and Veronica Lodge. A charming relic of the superhero boom, it's a fondly remembered oddity that shows the publisher winking at the genre.
