About the series
In this early-2010s DC Comics revival, writer Jeff Lemire and a rotating team of artists including Steve Pugh, Francis Portela, and Rafael Albuquerque took Buddy Baker—the super-powered family man known as Animal Man—deeper into the strange, ecological corners of the DC Universe. Over five tightly-woven issues, the series explored the bond between Buddy and his daughter Maxine, whose connection to the primal force known as The Red would reshape their lives. A key part of DC’s darker, more experimental period, this run stands out for its emotional gravity and its willingness to push a B-list hero into genuinely unsettling territory.
