☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis second volume of the Age of Apocalypse Epic continues Marvel's sprawling alternate-reality saga, collecting issues from the core X-Men titles that depict a world where Charles Xavier died before forming the X-Men, leaving Apocalypse to conquer North America. The story follows Magneto's ragtag team of resistance fighters—including characters like Wolverine, Storm, and a radically different Cyclops—as they battle Apocalypse's horsemen and the machinations of Mister Sinister, while the young mutant known as X-Man grapples with his world-shattering powers. Key storylines include the fall of the human stronghold Avalon and the escalating conflict that sets the stage for the saga's dramatic conclusion.
In "A Beginning," the X-Men stand as humanity’s last hope under Apocalypse’s brutal rule, with Magneto leading the resistance from the X-Mansion. When the mysterious Bishop arrives with a shocking revelation—that this world is a false reality born from Charles Xavier’s death—and Blink and Sunfire report that Apocalypse has unleashed Holocaust to wipe out the remaining humans, the team braces for a mission they may not survive. Written by Scott Lobdell and brought to life with bold, dynamic art by Joe Madureira, this pivotal chapter in the Age of Apocalypse epic blends high-stakes drama with the haunting weight of alternate realities, all wrapped in a cover by Joe Madureira and Tony S. Daniel.

Apocalypse rules the world and Magneto and his X-Men are the last bastion of hope for a rapidly dying humanity. To complicate things, the stranger, Bishop, has arrived and told Magneto that this reality is false and solely due to the untimely death of Charles Xavier in the past. As the X-Men discuss this conundrum, Blink and Sunfire arrive at X-Mansion and tell their teammates that Apocalypse has once again begun culling human beings through his agent, Holocaust. The X-Men prepare to face Holocaust and bid their farewells, realizing that this mission is most likely of the suicide variety.
