Remy LeBeau, of the thieves guild, is to be married to Bella Donna Boudreaux, of the assassins guild. During the ceremony, her brother objects and challenges Remy. Gambit's powers manifest during the fight and he kills Julien and is exiled. Gambit has Mr. Sinister operate on his brain to get his powers under control and, in exchange, he gathers the Marauders together and leads them into the Morlock tunnels. Gambit is gutted by Sabretooth but is able to make his way out of the underground, saving the young mutant Marrow in the process. Remy returns to the life of a thief and saves Storm.
