Written by Chris Claremont and Louise Simonson, with art by Arthur Adams, Jim Lee, and others, the story follows the X-Men and the New Mutants as they confront a dystopian future where mutantkind is hunted by Sentinels, while also dealing with the time-displaced Franklin Richards and the villainous Ahab. The volume collects Uncanny X-Men Annual #14, New Mutants Annual #6, X-Factor Annual #5, and Excalibur Annual #2, all published in 1990.
In "When Franklin Comes Marchin' Home," the X-Men face a surreal twist when adult Franklin Richards returns to Xavier's School, rebuilding it with eerie precision—complete with a reassembled New Mutants. With Banshee, the Invisible Woman, and Mr. Fantastic alongside him, young Franklin must confront the older version of himself as Ahab's threat looms. Written by Louise Simonson and illustrated by Terry Shoemaker and Chris Wozniak, with inks by Scott Williams, Al Milgrom, Art Thibert, and Harry Candelario, and colored by Brad Vancata, the issue’s haunting tone is captured in Mike Mignola’s striking cover.
In "When Franklin Comes Marchin' Home," a future version of Franklin Richards returns to the present, only to find his family’s story diverging from the one he remembers—leading to a tense, emotional clash with the current Fantastic Four. As he tries to correct what he sees as broken paths, old allies and unexpected figures like Banshee, Forge, and even the Power Pack kids are drawn into a journey that challenges what family, time, and fate truly mean.
In a haunting recreation of Xavier's School, adult Franklin Richards reunites with the New Mutants—Cable, Boom Boom, Cannonball, Rictor, Sunspot, Warlock, and Wolfsbane—while the young Franklin, alongside Banshee, the Invisible Woman, and Mr. Fantastic, witnesses a past that never was. When Ahab and his Hounds strike, the line between memory and menace blurs as the two Franklins face off in a battle shaped by time, loss, and the echoes of what might have been.
In "Act of Faith," the X-Factor team joins forces with the Fantastic Four to confront Ahab and stop Franklin Richards from the future, whose desperate attempt to remake reality threatens to unravel time itself. Amid the chaos, Rachel Summers finally meets her mother, Jean Grey, while a shocking moment leaves Nathan Christopher Summers vanished—just as the battle for the world's fate reaches a breaking point.
