“New Splash Page”

"New Splash Page" delivers a standout moment in the X-Men Classics series, spotlighting a tense clash with Sauron whose hypnotic influence leaves the team grappling with a mystery they can’t yet solve. Written by Roy Thomas and brought to life with dynamic art by Neal Adams—inked by Tom Palmer and colored by Daina Graziunas—this 1984 issue captures the emotional weight of personal connections amid the chaos, as the X-Men witness a fragile reunion between Dr. Karl Lykos and Tanya, only to step back from a family rift they’re not meant to resolve. The cover by Mike Zeck and Tom Palmer perfectly frames the issue’s mood, hinting at the storm brewing beneath the surface.

The X-Men battle Sauron and his hypnotic powers but the villain gets away and the heroes do not make the connection between the flying dinosaur and Dr. Karl Lykos. Visiting Lykos, they find Alex restored to health and witness a reunion between Karl and his love, Tanya. Tanya's father arrives and forbids their love as the X-Men slink away from the uncomfortable domestic scene.
