“Gold Rush”

In "Gold Rush," Charles Xavier’s mind drifts into a vivid memory of a past mission with Magneto, battling Baron Strucker for Nazi gold while crossing paths with Gabrielle Haller—only to be pulled back to reality when the memory triggers his awakening. The X-Men celebrate their mentor’s return, but their joy is short-lived as Deathbird abruptly spirits them away to a Brood ship. Written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Dave Cockrum, with inks by Bob Wiacek and colors by Glynis Wein, this pivotal issue blends nostalgic flashbacks with sudden peril. The cover, by Mike Mignola and P. Craig Russell, captures the moment of shocking transition.

While the X-Men try to figure out a way to bring Xavier out of his coma, he is reliving an old adventure in his head where he met Gabrielle Haller and he and Magneto battled Baron Strucker for Nazi gold. This snaps Charles out of his coma and there is much rejoicing. The X-Men travel to Lilandra's ship to attend a farewell banquet but Deathbird spoils the fun by transporting them all to a Brood ship.
