About this Issue

X-Force #6 (cover-dated January 1992) is the issue where the revamped Brotherhood of Evil Mutants—now led by Toad and including Blob, Pyro, Sauron, and the newly introduced Phantazia—made their first full interior appearance, pivoting the title from solo-villain skirmishes toward a faction-war format that would define early 1990s X-Men storytelling. Alongside the Brotherhood's debut in the story proper, the issue simultaneously introduces Thornn, a feline-powered Morlock whose personal vendetta against her sister Feral gives the conflict a familial dimension absent from most superhero team books of the era. The issue also advances the long-running Copycat deception: the 'Domino' present with Cable and X-Force throughout this run is in fact the shapeshifter Vanessa Carlysle, a narrative time-bomb that would not fully detonate until issue #11, making every Cable–Domino scene in this arc retroactively loaded with dramatic irony. Taken together, those character introductions and unresolved mysteries made #6 a dense table-setting chapter for the most consequential stretch of the series' Liefeld–Nicieza collaboration.

The issue was written by Fabian Nicieza and plotted and pencilled by Rob Liefeld, with colors by Steve Buccellato and editorial oversight from Suzanne Gaffney and Bob Harras. It was released on November 26, 1991, bearing a January 1992 cover date, placing it squarely inside the brief window before Liefeld's departure from Marvel—he illustrated the series through issue #9 and stopped plotting after #11, ultimately leaving in 1992 to co-found Image Comics.
