“A Summers Tale”

"A Summers Tale" dives into the formative years of Alex, a boy adopted by the Blandings to fill the void left by their late son Todd—a prodigy in every way. As Alex struggles to live up to that impossible standard, he faces relentless pressure from bullies and a shadowy figure determined to keep him out of place. With Jeff Matsuda’s evocative art and Howard Mackie’s poignant storytelling, this prelude to X-Factor #1 reveals the quiet weight of expectation and the first flickers of something far more complex beneath the surface.

Alex's early life is explored in flashback. He is adopted by the Blandings to replace their older son, Todd. Todd was an excellent athlete and scholar, and despite trying his best, Alex doesn't ever quite measure up. Some local bullies and Mr. Sinister want to make sure Alex never fits in, however.
