Wynd: The Power of the Blood #1

History

The Wynd property has roots stretching back to writer James Tynion IV's high school years, when he first wrote down the name and concept in a notebook; he has described it publicly as his foundational 'ur-story.' He and artist Michael Dialynas — his collaborator on the earlier GLAAD Award-winning series The Woods — developed the property formally during a late-night conversation in Athens, Greece, sorting through what elements of those old ideas still resonated. The series was originally announced in 2020 as a trilogy of graphic novels from BOOM!'s BOOM! Box imprint, but the COVID-19 pandemic's disruption of the direct market led BOOM! Studios to pivot, releasing the material as oversized single issues — each featuring over 40 story pages — rather than waiting for collected editions. The Power of the Blood arc, announced in August 2024, was billed from the start as the conclusion of the saga, with the creative team of Tynion IV, Dialynas, and letterer AndWorld Design returning intact.
