World of Fantasy #16

“Nightmare Planet”

"Nightmare Planet" is a delightfully absurd 1959 tale from Marvel’s World of Fantasy #16, where a man with hay fever accidentally unleashes a conquering genie—only for the creature to immediately fall victim to the very allergies it now shares. With Steve Ditko handling both pencils and inks, the story unfolds with a surreal, deadpan charm, as the once-dominant genie struggles to survive in a world it can no longer tolerate. The cover, a vibrant collaboration by Carl Burgos and Bob Forgione, captures the lamp’s chaotic release in bold, dynamic lines.

A man with hay fever releases a hostile genie with plans of conquest from a lamp, but the genie contracts hay fever from his liberator. The genie tries to go to different areas, but after so long in the lamp, he has no resistances to germs and pollen. He decides he was better off in the lamp.
