The series was conceived and announced in late 2023 as part of Marvel's celebration of Wolverine's 50th anniversary, with Claremont himself framing it as a personal homecoming — he noted in interviews that Natasha Romanoff appeared in the very first Marvel story he ever wrote, and that he had known Logan for fifty years as a writer. Claremont described the series as picking up approximately four hours after Uncanny X-Men #268 ends, filling narrative gaps he had always wanted to address: what truly brought each character to Madripoor and what happened immediately after the events of that 1990 story. The entire five-issue run was written by Claremont with interior art by Edgar Salazar and cover art by Philip Tan, with Jordan D. White serving as editor.
