History

The 2025 series grew out of a recognition — articulated publicly by editor Mark Basso — that a clear gap existed between the Ogun storyline's conclusion and Wolverine and Kitty's return to New York in Uncanny X-Men #192, and that Claremont himself was uniquely positioned to fill it. Claremont, who co-created Kitty Pryde and shaped Wolverine into the character readers recognize today during his sixteen-year Uncanny X-Men run, described the project as the story of what happened between those two endpoints. He partnered with artist Damian Couceiro, known for X-Men Unlimited and Groot, while veteran X-Men artist Alan Davis supplied covers across the run — a creative lineup designed to honor the visual and narrative register of the original 1980s material.
