“What If the Fantastic Four Were Cosmonauts?”
About this Collection

This 2006 Marvel collection reimagines the classic 'What If?' concept by exploring a universe where the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe have their moral alignments swapped. The story follows a heroic Doctor Doom and a tyrannical Reed Richards, among other role-reversed characters, as they clash in a reality where good and evil are turned upside down. It collects the four-issue miniseries written by Karl Bollers with art by various creators.

writer Tony Bedard · artist Carmine DiGiandomenico · inker John Stanisci · colorist Lovern Kindzierski · letterer Dave Lanphear

Young Union soldier, Stephen Rogers, reports to his new commander, Buck Barnes. Full of ideal notions about what his side is fighting for, Rogers is appalled when he discovers Buck and his Redlegs Regiment is using the Civil War as an opportunity to kill, steal and destroy for their own personal gain. As Stephen tries to save some village children from his own troops, he is badly wounded. He wakes up under the care of Private Wilson who uses Indian magic to imbue Rogers with the power of Captain America. This same power turns Buck into the White Skull and a powerful rivalry is born.
