“What If Tony Stark Had Become Doctor Doom?”

In *What If?: Dark Avengers* #nn, a bold twist on Marvel’s legacy unfolds as Tony Stark and Victor Von Doom become roommates, their unlikely friendship forged in shared scientific ambition. When Von Doom orchestrates a body swap, the two are thrust into lives far beyond their own—Stark as the powerless heir to Latveria, Von Doom as the billionaire genius behind Iron Man’s armor. With Bob Layton and David Michelinie scripting the tale and Graham Nolan’s art bringing the clash of egos to life, this alternate path sees two icons rise in parallel, each crafting a suit of power—only to collide when their ambitions eclipse loyalty. The cover by Dave Wilkins captures the moment of transformation, a striking image of two men, two destinies, forever changed.

Brash, rich Tony Stark becomes college roommates with dour, destitute Victor Von Doom. Due to their scientific interest, the two become unlikely friends. Victor has Tony help him with an experiment in telekenetics but this is really a ploy to switch bodies with his wealthy friend. Von Doom as Stark takes over the family business and becomes powerful. Tony as Von Doom returns to Latveria with his memories erased but works his way up to become equally powerful. Both create sets of armor for entirely different purposes but clash in conflict when Iron Man becomes jealous of Dr. Doom's success.
