“In the Shadows”

In What If...? #90: "In the Shadows", writer Todd DeZago and artist James Daly explore a world where Scott and Alex’s parents survive a plane crash, leaving their family intact and Alex struggling to find his own place in the shadow of his older brother’s emerging eye beam powers. With a furry mutant confidant named Hank by his side, Alex begins to carve out his own identity—until the sinister influence of Dark Beast takes hold, especially as Alex’s own mutant abilities start to surface. The cover by Ariel Olivetti captures the quiet tension of a boy on the edge, caught between brotherhood and something darker.
