When Tony Stark returns from Viet Nam, he makes his Iron Man technology available to the world. For every good purpose the Iron Man tech is put to, someone finds a way to put it to an evil use as well. The world is caught in a perpetual arms race until Magneto steps in to take over. Tony Stark creates a giant polymer Iron Man suit to run a suicide mission against Magneto and wipe out every piece of Stark tech all over the world but, with the help of Rhody, the X-Men and the newly formed Avengers, he realizes he can stop the master of magnetism without destroying his life's work.
