Wendy herself was created by artist Steve Muffatti and debuted as a backup feature in Casper the Friendly Ghost #20 (May 1954), conceived as a companion 'opposite-type' character in the same mold as Casper — a supernatural being who refuses to frighten or harm. After appearing in Harvey Hits starting with issue #7, she accumulated six trial appearances before earning her own title in August 1960.
