Vampirella #44

This August 1975 Warren Magazine issue sets an unsettling mood right from Sanjulián's painted cover, where a gaunt, wild-haired figure looms over a bloodied body on a slab, a broken window and grim anatomical sketches framing the scene in shades of sickly green. The cover copy promises "Forbidden Secrets. Immortality. Wealth" — the dark currency of the Cult of the Dead — while also teasing Pantha, the murderous cat-woman, lurking somewhere within. With "Blood for the Dancing Sorcerer" by Bill DuBay, Gerry Boudreau, and José González waiting inside, this is Warren horror atmosphere at its most atmospheric and unsettling.
