“Awakening”

Part of the 2016 X-Men: Apocalypse Wars crossover, this issue of Uncanny X-Men opens with a cover by Greg Land that makes an immediate impression: a massive, blue-skinned, yellow-eyed face dominates the composition, roaring open-mouthed as the team is scattered around it — Magneto in his red-and-black suit descending from above, Mystique recoiling to the left, Psylocke in her purple costume to the right, a feral figure tumbling at the bottom, and a dark-clad figure with tentacle-like elements at lower right. Writer Cullen Bunn and artist Ken Lashley, with colors by Nolan Woodard, bring the "Awakening" storyline to life at a moment when this roster of X-Men faces something unmistakably ancient and overwhelming.
