Writer Rick Remender used the issue to pose a sharp question about systemic failure: Captain America's acknowledgment that the Avengers had neglected the mutant cause gave the book a social conscience that set it apart from typical team launches. Marvel announced the Uncanny Avengers creative team of writer Rick Remender and artist John Cassaday in August 2012, positioning the series as the opening salvo of the Marvel NOW! initiative — the company-wide relaunch that followed Avengers vs. X-Men. Editor Tom Brevoort oversaw the title, with Laura Martin on colours and Chris Eliopoulos as letterer; the American first issue shipped on 10 October 2012 with a cover date of December 2012. Standaard Uitgeverij, a Belgian publisher historically known for strip classics such as Suske en Wiske, secured Dutch-language rights via Panini Comics (which administers Disney/Marvel's international licensing) and launched its Marvel NOW! line — with Uncanny Avengers #1 among the inaugural four titles — on 7 October 2015.
