Ultimate Spider-Man #31

Spider-Man's red-and-blue gloved wrists locked in handcuffs fill the entire cover of this 2003 Marvel series installment, a striking close-up that immediately raises the question of just how the wall-crawler ended up restrained. Titled "Black Van," the story arc promises real trouble for Peter Parker's alter ego, and Mark Bagley's cover art sells that tension with clean, confident linework that makes the cold steel of those cuffs feel genuinely ominous. Brian Michael Bendis and Bagley were firing on all cylinders in this run, and this issue looks like a standout chapter.
