Ultimate Spider-Man #22
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeUltimate Spider-Man #22 marks the first appearance of the Ultimate Universe (Earth-6160) version of Superior Spider-Man — Otto Octavius independently bitten by a radioactive spider and donning a spider-suit entirely on his own terms, without the body-swap that defined the character's 616 origin. This delivers a fresh, tonally distinct spin on one of Marvel's most recognizable legacy identities: rather than a villain's act of conquest, the Ultimate Superior Spider-Man is born out of quiet ambition and, memorably, the need to fetch takeout for a family in hiding underground. As the third-to-last issue of Hickman and Checchetto's 24-issue run, the issue also functions as the narrative hinge-point of the series' endgame, setting critical pieces — Richard Parker as Venom, Peter and Harry's underground alliance, and a redacted 'last will and testament' — in motion for the finale.

The 2024 Ultimate Spider-Man series was conceived by Jonathan Hickman as the anchor title of Marvel's relaunched Ultimate Universe imprint, following the Ultimate Invasion miniseries. Hickman stated publicly that the 24-issue run was always his intended scope — nothing deviated from his original pitch — making #22 precisely the third chapter of a three-chapter endgame. Marco Checchetto, who had previously drawn Daredevil for Marvel, served as both penciller and inker throughout, with Erick Arciniega on colors and VC's Cory Petit on letters for this issue; editor Wilson Moss shepherded the series from its January 2024 debut through this late-series installment.
