Ultimate Black Panther launched in February 2024 as the second title in Marvel's relaunched Ultimate Universe imprint (Earth-6160), overseen editorially by Jonathan Hickman's framework and shepherded issue-to-issue by editors Wil Moss and Michelle Marchese under editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski. Writer Bryan Hill — whose prior Wakanda work included the 2018 Killmonger miniseries — conceived the series as an epic-scale, world-building political thriller, citing Dune and A Song of Ice and Fire as structural influences, while artist Stefano Caselli brought visual continuity from his earlier collaboration with Hickman on Ultimate Universe #1. Issue #18, released July 16, 2025, sits deep in the second year of the run and represents the payoff of story threads that Hill had been seeding since the opening arc.
