History

Ultimate Black Panther launched in February 2024 as the second title of Marvel's relaunched Ultimate Universe (Earth-6160), spinning out of Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch's Ultimate Invasion miniseries. Writer Bryan Hill — a screenwriter known for DC's Titans series and prior Marvel work including a Killmonger miniseries — cited Frank Herbert's Dune explicitly as his structural model, using it to frame Wakanda's conflict between ancient mysticism and modern statecraft, and to shape invented institutions like the Vodu-Khan. Stefano Caselli and colorist David Curiel served as the series' primary art team from the outset; issue #17 marked Caselli's return to interior duties after a brief absence, an event reviewers specifically called out as a welcome restoration of the book's visual identity.
