About this Issue

Issue #15 marks the first appearance of Chima — a character whose debut deepens the series' Nigerian subplot and expands the human cost of the Progenitor crisis beyond Wakanda's borders. Set within Marvel's second Ultimate Universe line (Earth-6160), the issue continues to push T'Challa into unfamiliar, stripped-down territory: operating without his vibranium-enhanced suit and navigating a geopolitical tangle involving Dark Vibranium, Nigerian state actors, and a body-surfing ancient spirit, all of which distinguishes this reimagining from any previous Black Panther continuity. The book's grounding of superhero conflict in African political realism — with Abuja and the Nigerian Office of National Security as genuine dramatic settings — reflects a considered creative choice to treat the continent as a living world rather than a backdrop.

History

Ultimate Black Panther launched in 2024 as the second title in Marvel's relaunched Ultimate Universe line (Earth-6160), written by Bryan Edward Hill — previously known for Blade and Killmonger — with art by Stefano Caselli and colors by David Curiel. Issue #15 arrived on April 23, 2025, edited by Wil Moss and Michelle Marchese under Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, and sits within the run's second major story arc, which pivoted the series' central threat from Moon Knight to the Progenitor after the resolution of the Khonshu/Ra conflict. The issue was subsequently collected in the trade paperback Ultimate Black Panther by Bryan Hill Vol. 3: Darkness and Light, which gathers issues #13–18.

Trivia · 8 facts

  • First appearance of Chima (unnamed), later revealed to be the brother of Adi, a possessed Nigerian special-ops agent; Chima is introduced as the masked sniper who assassinates Mr. Ola of the Nigerian Office of National Security.
  • Featured characters: Black Panther (T'Challa) as lead; Storm (Ororo Munroe) as supporting; the Progenitor (possessing Helen Forton) as antagonist — all Earth-6160 versions.
  • The Progenitor — introduced in issue #13 as the spiritual/living embodiment of (Dark) Vibranium — continues its body-surfing rampage in Nigeria, possessing politicians and operatives who have been exploiting vibranium for state interests.
  • T'Challa operates throughout the issue in a legacy fabric suit provided by the Vodu-Khan, having discarded his vibranium-enhanced Panther Habit out of distrust of the element — a significant status-quo shift for the character within this arc.
