About this Issue

Ultimate Black Panther #14 marks the full unleashing of the Progenitor — the living consciousness of dark vibranium — as an active threat beyond Wakanda's borders, fundamentally rewriting the metal's mythology in the new Ultimate Universe (Earth-6160) by casting it not as a resource but as a cosmic force with its own colonizing will. The issue is also a pivotal character turning point: T'Challa abandons his vibranium-laced suit entirely, donning a legacy fabric costume preserved by the Vodu-Khan, a decision that visually and thematically echoes his original appearance in Fantastic Four #52 and signals his rejection of the corrupting element. Together with issue #13, it forms the hinge of 'Year Two' of the series, shifting the book's central conflict from a political war against Moon Knight to a supernatural, cosmos-spanning threat. History

Ultimate Black Panther launched in early 2024 as part of the revived Ultimate Universe imprint overseen by Jonathan Hickman, with writer Bryan Hill — previously known for Blade and Killmonger — and series artist Stefano Caselli building what Hill described as epic, Dune-influenced world-building. By issue #14, Carlos Nieto was handling interior art duties in place of Caselli (who provided covers), a rotating arrangement that had been in place since earlier in the run. The book was edited by Wil Moss and Michelle Marchese under Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, and issue #14 arrived on March 19, 2025, opening what the editorial line branded as the series' second year. The issue was later collected in the Spanish Panini Cómics edition of Ultimate Black Panther #5, alongside issues #13 and #15.

The Progenitor — defined across the series as the spirit or consciousness of dark vibranium, described by TV Tropes as 'the living embodiment of Dark Vibranium' — begins body-surfing (possessing human hosts) in this issue, with the Progenitor jumping into Nigerian special-ops agent Adi and CIA operative Helen Forton, both of whom make their first appearances here.
The C.I.A. of Earth-6160 makes its first appearance in this issue, establishing a new geopolitical dimension to the Ultimate Universe's Wakanda storyline.
T'Challa discards his vibranium suit and dons an older fabric costume preserved by the Vodu-Khan, a visual homage to Black Panther's original attire in Fantastic Four #52, as confirmed by the AIPT review.
Inan, the Ultimate Universe's Sorceress Supreme — an 'immensely powerful occultist' who had been held captive by H.A.N.D. — casts a spell that banishes the first Progenitor into deep space, though the entity subsequently re-emerges on Earth by possessing new hosts.
