“This Planet, These People...”

The penultimate stretch of Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley's weekly epic arrives with this May 2009 installment, featuring a cover by Shane Davis and John Dell that puts a fierce, fist-clenching Batman front and center against a fiery, chaotic backdrop — with what appears to be Superman's red cape flickering at the edge of the frame. The overlapping symbols of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman looming above reinforce that all three corners of DC's trinity are very much in play. It's a punchy, propulsive image that captures the urgency of a series barreling toward its finale.
