“What Paris Should Be Like”

A Washington Today front page screaming "ARES INVADES D.C." sets a fittingly alarming tone for this 2009 installment of DC's weekly Trinity series, written by Kurt Busiek and Fabian Nicieza. The cover by Andy Kubert and Jesse Delperdang thrusts a snarling, black-and-gold-costumed figure into the foreground, fist raised and surrounded by a horde of monstrous, weapon-brandishing warriors surging behind him. It's a vivid, kinetic image that makes the god of war's threat feel genuinely urgent — and leaves little doubt that Washington is in for a very bad day.
