In "Ring of Hate!", Fortress Maximus leads a team of Autobots—Chromedome, Hardhead, Highbrow, and Brainstorm—to the planet Nebulos, seeking peace amid rising tensions. To prove their intentions, the Autobots make a radical gesture: each removes their own head, leaving their bodies still and vulnerable in a powerful display of trust.

In "Broken Glass!", Lord Zarak manipulates the people of Nebulos, turning them against the Autobots and secretly summoning the Decepticons to the planet. As the Decepticons descend and lay siege to the capital, five Nebulans are chosen for a desperate transformation—bonded to special armor that fuses their minds with the heads of five headless Autobots, forging a last line of defense.

In "Love and Steel!", the Decepticon Terrorbots launch a brutal assault on a Nebulan city, only to be met by the heroic Technobots. When the Terrorbots combine into the colossal Abominus, the Technobots answer with their own fusion into the mighty Computron—only for the Decepticons to turn the tide by stealing Headmaster technology and forging six new warriors from Lord Zarak and his allies. As Autobot and Decepticon Headmasters clash in a battle of wills and metal, the fate of the Nebulans hangs in the balance.

In "Brothers in Armor!!", the Autobots and their Nebulan allies forge a groundbreaking alliance by merging cybernetic transformation with bio-engineered warriors, creating the Autobot Targetmasters. When the Decepticons replicate the technology, sparking a devastating war that reduces Nebulos to rubble, both sides flee to Earth—hunting each other across a new world where the line between machine and warrior blurs.

In "Trial by Fire!", the Autobot Headmasters descend on Earth following a distress signal from Goldbug, leading them to the ruins of the Ark where they find Spike Witwicky and the toy car housing Goldbug’s consciousness. As the Decepticon Headmasters arrive on the same trail, a fierce clash erupts between the factions—culminating in a desperate duel between Galen and Lord Zarak, with Galen making a final, heroic stand to protect Spike.

In "The Desert Island of Space!", Spike Witwicky finds himself bonded with Cerebros and Fortress Maximus as the Targetmasters launch a daring rescue mission to save Buster from a Decepticon island base. When the island suddenly transforms into a massive rocket and escapes into space, Fortress Maximus pursues—only to be crippled in the process. With the enemy closing in, Spike must make a desperate choice: disengage from Cerebros to reach Buster, and then use his wits and courage to activate Fortress Maximus’ weapons in a final, defiant stand against Shockwave.
