“They Met at ESP Academy”
About this Collection

The fourth volume of the Tokyo ESP series continues the story of Rinka Urushiba, a young girl who gains the ability to phase through objects after encountering glowing fish. This collected edition, published by Vertical in 2016, follows Rinka and her fellow ESP users as they face escalating conflicts with other superpowered individuals and government forces. The volume collects the next chapters of the manga series by Hajime Segawa, blending action, supernatural elements, and social commentary.

In "They Met at ESP Academy," Hajime Segawa and Kumar Sivasubramanian deliver a compelling look at life in a world where ESPers are regulated and isolated, focusing on Ren Jomaku, a shy student struggling with her powers and the isolation they’ve brought her. On her first day at the ESP Academy, Ren finds herself caught in a sudden riot sparked by rebellious students and a shadowy outside force, setting the stage for tension and unexpected connections. The story, illustrated by Segawa with his signature detail and emotional clarity, is presented in a cover by Segawa that captures the academy’s stark, controlled atmosphere.

Sixteen months after The Professor's attack on Tokyo, all known ESPers have been registered and assigned to a private academy under strict regulation of the use of their special powers. One such student is Ren Jomaku, a young girl embarrassed by her abilities and the social shunning she has experienced. On her first day at the academy, Ren winds up in the middle of a riot started by delinquent students and instigated by a mysterious outside agency.
