ThunderCats Lost #9
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThunderCats: Lost #9 is the penultimate chapter of the ten-issue spin-off series and delivers one of its most consequential story beats: the full backstory of Scorpius, a villain original to Dynamite's continuity, whose centuries-long entanglement with Thundera is positioned as a threat to rewrite the planet's established history. By centering the issue on lore-expanding revelations rather than action set-pieces, the creative team uses the second-to-last slot to lay the historical and mythological groundwork that the series finale — and the subsequent ThunderCats × SilverHawks crossover event — will build upon. The issue also crystallizes the moral stakes of the Lost team's mission: Pumyra, Lynx-O, and Neko must choose between the immediate human cost of rescuing a captured teammate and the longer-term survival of all Thunderians through possession of the Book of Omens. As the closing movement of a spin-off designed to spotlight second-tier characters from the original 1980s cartoon, issue #9 demonstrates that Bengali's squad can carry genuinely franchise-shaping narrative weight.

ThunderCats: Lost grew directly out of the creative partnership Ed Brisson and artist Rapha Lobosco formed on the 2024 one-shot ThunderCats: Apex, which itself expanded on a character first introduced in the main Declan Shalvey-led ThunderCats series. Brisson had been vocal about wanting to write a story centered on the later-introduced characters — Bengali, Pumyra, and Lynx-O — who were largely sidelined in the original Rankin-Bass animation and had never headlined a comic before. Dynamite announced the series in December 2024, with issue #1 launching in March 2025 under editor Nate Cosby; the series ran concurrently with both the flagship ThunderCats title and the SilverHawks book, functioning as an interlocking piece of a broader shared-universe expansion. Issue #9's cover lineup saw Declan Shalvey (Cover A) joined by Alfredo Cardona, Meghan Hetrick, Marco Failla, Rapha Lobosco, and Jae Lee & June Chung, with virgin and incentive variants rounding out a package consistent with Dynamite's multi-cover approach throughout the run.
Trivia · 8 facts
- Published December 3, 2025 by Dynamite Entertainment; written by Ed Brisson with interior art by Rapha Lobosco.
- Serves as the penultimate (ninth of ten) issue of the ThunderCats: Lost series, setting up the finale directly.
- Central story beat: the origin and full history of Scorpius — a character original to Dynamite's ThunderCats continuity, first introduced in ThunderCats: Lost #2 — is revealed, with his centuries-old connection to Thundera framed as potentially rewriting generations of Thunderan history.
- Scorpius was established in earlier issues as a lethal mercenary hunting the Lost team; issue #9 transforms him from antagonist into a figure with deep, tangled historical grievances against Thundera.
- Pumyra, Lynx-O, and Neko face a mission-critical dilemma: abandon a captured teammate or abandon the search for the Book of Omens, the artifact whose recovery is the team's primary objective.
- Cover A is by Declan Shalvey (the artist and writer of the flagship ThunderCats series); additional cover artists include Alfredo Cardona, Meghan Hetrick, Marco Failla, Rapha Lobosco, and Jae Lee & June Chung, with 1:10 and 1:15 virgin incentive tiers.
- The ThunderCats: Lost series spotlights Bengali, Pumyra, and Lynx-O — characters introduced in the later seasons of the 1980s Rankin-Bass animated series who had never before been the leads of their own comic book series.
- The events of the Lost series were structured as an essential bridge into the ThunderCats × SilverHawks crossover event announced to follow the ten-issue run.
