ThunderCats: Lost debuted in March 2025 as a deliberate sister series to Dynamite's flagship ThunderCats title, itself launched following the company's NYCC 2023 announcement. Writer Ed Brisson and artist Rapha Lobosco were a natural pairing for the project, having already collaborated on the ThunderCats: Apex one-shot, which introduced a time-traveling character into the comics' mythology; editor Nate Cosby recruited the same team to helm Lost. Brisson has described the series' creative DNA as a dark, war-based narrative — he explicitly compared it to DC's Suicide Squad — set in a hyper-technological world hostile to all feline life, a deliberate tonal contrast to the magic-infused Third Earth of the main book.
