ThunderCats: Lost #3 is the third chapter in Dynamite's first-ever ongoing series spotlighting the franchise's 'second tier' Thunderians — Bengali, Pumyra, and Lynx-O — characters who debuted in the original animated show's later seasons but had never before been given a sustained comic-book starring vehicle. The series as a whole, of which this issue is a pivotal middle chapter, deliberately shifts the tonal register of Dynamite's ThunderCats line away from Lion-O's mythic adventures and into the grimy territory of a behind-enemy-lines war story, making it a notable creative counterpoint to the parent flagship. Issue #3 deepens the roles of Scorpius and Captain Shiner — a villain newly minted for Dynamite's continuity and a reworked classic antagonist, respectively — cementing the series' commitment to expanding the franchise's villain roster alongside its heroes. The issue is also an early data point in the broader 'connected universe' strategy Dynamite built around the 1980s Rankin/Bass library, with the Lost series explicitly designed to interlock with the mainline ThunderCats book and the SilverHawks spin-off.

ThunderCats: Lost grew directly out of the commercial momentum of Dynamite's 2024 ThunderCats relaunch — which editor Nate Cosby shepherded — and was announced in December 2024 as the second spin-off in what had become a rapidly expanding line. Writer Ed Brisson and artist Rapha Lobosco were paired on the series after their collaboration on the ThunderCats: Apex one-shot proved a strong fit for the harder-edged, sci-fi-forward corner of the franchise Dynamite wanted to explore. Issue #3 was originally scheduled for May 7, 2025, but was pushed to May 28, 2025, a delay the ThunderCats fan wiki attributes to broader spring 2025 shipping disruptions; additionally, Dynamite's mid-run distributor transition from Diamond Comics Distribution to Lunar Distribution caused the Metal Premium (Cover F) and Limited Virgin (Cover G) variants to be held until August 13, 2025. A notable production error was also documented: Covers D and K for this issue were incorrectly solicited as Mark Bagley artwork when the actual artist was Marco Failla.

The issue is the third chapter of a ten-issue run of ThunderCats: Lost, a spin-off of Dynamite's mainline ThunderCats series that ran concurrently with the SilverHawks series as part of a planned interconnected line.
Central cast consists of five Thunderan soldiers behind enemy lines: Commander Bengali, Pumyra, Lynx-O (all returning from the original 1985–1989 animated series), plus two newly created characters, Neko (a snow-leopard warrior) and Ligon (a liger), who made their first appearances in ThunderCats: Lost #1.
Antagonist Scorpius — a ruthless bounty hunter working as Captain Shiner's personal mercenary — was introduced in ThunderCats: Lost #2 and continues as the primary pursuing threat in issue #3; Scorpius is a wholly new character created for Dynamite's continuity.
Captain Shiner, the series' principal villain, is a reworked version of the mercenary spaceship captain who appeared in the original animated series, here reimagined as an oppressive territorial warlord in a tech-dominant, magic-free world.
Standard Cover A is by Declan Shalvey (writer of the mainline ThunderCats book); additional covers for this issue were supplied by Clayton Henry, Meghan Hetrick, Marco Failla (incorrectly credited on covers D and K as Mark Bagley), Jae Lee and June Chung, and Rapha Lobosco.
The series ultimately concluded at ten issues and fed into a subsequent fifteen-issue ThunderCats × SilverHawks crossover event, with the Lost series' arc given a dedicated concluding one-shot; ThunderCats: Lost in Time, a follow-up series written by Brisson with art by Chris Campana, was later announced, transplanting the Lost cast to a dystopian 'Sixth Earth.'
