Dynamite Entertainment announced the ThunderCats relaunch at New York Comic Con 2023, with the creative team of writer Declan Shalvey, artist Drew Moss, and letterer Jeff Eckleberry attached from the outset. The series launched in February 2024 under a licensing arrangement with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, and the debut issue became the highest-selling single issue in Dynamite's twenty-year publishing history, eventually surpassing 200,000 copies across multiple printings. By the time issue #9 arrived on October 30, 2024, the franchise had already spawned a prequel spin-off (ThunderCats: Cheetara by Soo Lee and Domenico Carbone) and was weeks away from announcing a SilverHawks companion series — a direct consequence of the main title's commercial momentum. Editor Nate Cosby shepherded the series throughout, and the success of the ten-issue run seeded a larger crossover event and additional one-shots that followed.
