Rosiński's painted cover for this 2004 Egmont Polska volume says everything about its title character: Kriss de Valnor stands poised and commanding between two dark rock formations, dressed in black with a red headband and a whip coiled at her side, radiating cool self-possession against a pale sky. The golden pre-Columbian mask motifs flanking the Thorgal logo hint at the exotic, dangerous world she inhabits. Van Hamme and Rosiński bring their signature blend of mythic adventure and richly human characters to bear in what promises to be a story very much on Kriss's own terms.
