Steve Ditko's cover sets a gleefully macabre tone as Dr. Death — a gaunt, ghoulish host in tattered robes — beckons readers from a creaking staircase, flanked by a grinning skull mounted on the wall and a wide-eyed monster lurking in the foreground shadows. A fleeing figure scrambles away through a doorway in the background, while Dr. Death cheerfully invites us in to hear his "real out-of-this-world stories." For a dime in 1957, Charlton packed this issue with a Ditko-illustrated tale, "The Faceless Ones," written by Joe Gill — a fine combination for fans of eerie, atmospheric horror comics.
