“Don't Look Now”

In "Don't Look Now," a quiet moment between Terry and Joe takes a surprising turn when his casual request for a date to a party unintentionally stings her—until a simple boast about her chin-ups becomes the key to a shared secret. The story unfolds with gentle humor and subtle tension, built on small gestures and unspoken understanding. Cover by John Stanley captures the quiet drama of the moment, while the interior art and typeset lettering deliver a crisp, nostalgic feel to this 1970 Dell comic.

Terry excitedly tells Joe she can chin herself three times, but he's preoccupied with a problem: he has to go to a party and needs a date. When he asks Terry to help him find a girl to take, her hopes are dashed, and she walks away, hurt. The next day, she tells Joe she can now do six chin-ups. He is genuinely excited for her and shares his good news: he doesn't have to bring a girl to the party. But when he finds out Terry also got an invitation, he eagerly asks her to go with him. The final twist reveals they had planned the whole thing.
