“Don't Look Now”

In "Don't Look Now," a quiet moment between Terry and Joe takes an unexpected turn when his need for a party date accidentally hurts her feelings—until a surprising twist reveals their entire exchange was a playful setup. The story, drawn in a crisp, expressive style by John Stanley (who also handled the cover), captures a small, sweet moment of miscommunication and mutual affection with a wink. A 15-cent comic from 1962, it’s a charming slice of early teen romance from Dell’s Thirteen series.

The comic shows a series of people looking at their reflections in a tailor shop's window. A woman named Judy initially sees a pudgy reflection of herself and is unhappy. As she walks away, a slimmer woman sees a distorted, overweight reflection of herself and is also unhappy. Finally, Judy returns to the window and now sees a distorted, much thinner reflection of herself and is pleased. The comic plays on body image and distorted self-perception, with the tailor shop window acting as a funhouse mirror.
